“Daily Prize Winners Announced from the Return To Earth 30-Day Trailforks Ride Challenge”
I didn’t win anything, but I have managed to stay in the challenge by riding every day in July so far. This weekend, I leave for that bike trip. I plan to get a quick 20 minute dash on the local trail first thing in the morning before I leave, and ride in Oregon the next day, so I think I’ll be able to stick with it through the month.
“The King Lifetime Warranty”
Kudos to Chris King for making it official and clear. Their products are excellent; I’ve never had a problem with any of my King products, and have favored King hubs for as long as I’ve been able to afford them (and maybe a bit longer). My only complaint is that the turquoise parts are too blue. ;)
“We make long-lasting, precision components and we stand behind them. Our parts and bearings are designed to be fully serviceable, but if you actually manage to damage one, the King Lifetime Warranty means that we will repair any part that hinders the function of your component free of charge.”
“Yosemite National Park gets its iconic names back”
It was a crazy situation to begin with. I’m going with the family to Yosemite later this year, and looking forward to dinner at the Ahwahnee, not the Majestic.
“This last-mile delivery startup wants to put robots in bike lanes”
“But will cyclists mind sharing the space?”
Yes.
“Trailforks 30-Day Ride Challenge Starts Today!”
Oof, I’m not sure I can make this happen, but I’ll try. I’m doing a riding trip later this month, and ironically, that might be the biggest obstacle, logistically; the drive days are likely to make riding hard. I’ll see if I can get creative. Then again, who am I kidding? The real obstacle is riding every day for a month. ;)
“18-422 Rucho v. Common Cause (06/27/2019)”
Justice Kagan:
“Of all times to abandon the Court’s duty to declare the law, this was not the one. The practices challenged in these cases imperil our system of government. Part of the Court’s role in that system is to defend its foundations. None is more important than free and fair elections. With respect but deep sadness, I dissent.”
What a travesty.
“Ten Iconic Photographs: No. 1”
The Online Photographer:
“Each of these galaxies, of course, comprises millions of individual stars. The objects it shows are between 2.5 and 10.5 billion light years away. To put us in context—an absurd concept, since that simply can’t be done—consider that Voyager 1 has been traveling at approximately 55,000 miles per hour since 1977 and just recently left the earth’s solar system. Assuming it could keep going that long, it would require another 400,000+ years before reaching a second solar system. Just try to extrapolate that kind of scope and scale out to encompass 10,000 galaxies in a patch of sky that can be covered by two crossed needles held at arm’s length. The human imagination is far too paltry a thing.”
“Deadly Class will not be moving to a new network”
Deadly Class creator Rick Remender:
“Deadly Class will not be moving to a new network. Which is sort of perfect when you think about it. If you want to see what happens after the 1st season you’ll have to buy the comics, which are pretty keen. Thank you to our fans for the huge support. You helped soothe the sting.”
Seriously, people, stop watching Syfy and let it die the death it deserves.
“Yes, we do have concentration camps”
The (conservative) Salt Lake Tribune:
Because that starts as this. Some of the people who study, and some of the people who survived or are descended from survivors of the Holocaust, are pointing out that that crime against humanity did not arrive overnight.
It worked its way up, from nasty political speeches (check) to politicians seeking and gaining power with promises to protect the purity of the nation from foreign invasion (check) to denying basic human rights and decency to people of an unfavored class (check).
