I completely agree. It’s not purely looks, but the tactile feel of some of them too. If I’m paying $500 for a 50mm lens, I’d like for it to feel like a highly precise tool. That’s not to say that I’m unhappy with the pictures I make with the 50mm f/1.4G, but it doesn’t give me the same pleasure to hold and use as, say, the Zeiss equivalent.
