“Indira Varma on Favorite Moments, Ellaria’s Passion and Politics”
Spoilers ahead for this week’s episode of Game of Thrones.
Indira Varma:
“I was like, “What the f**k? I don’t even speak! I don’t even die on camera!” That was me, the actor, going, Where’s my moment? Then, re-reading it, I thought it was brilliant. It’s even better than I could have expected.”
This was a decent interview, but I have to disagree with this statement. I loved the episode, and really liked the scene she’s talking about. However, now that I realize that this was not just her daughter’s death, but also Ellaria’s, I’m disappointed. I see now that this is the end of their story, but I’m left wondering what the whole point of it all was. What would be different about the show if we hadn’t gone through all the painful scenes in Dorne, and just left the Sands out of it. Hell, she could have come back just for these couple of episodes, having done all that shit, including killing Myrcella, off-screen, and I think we’d have been better off. There’s probably a whole episode of wasted, uninteresting time we could reclaim. Having Ellaria die in the dungeon without any closure whatsoever is a pretty weak way for her to go.
